"Marty" Marvin

Founder member Martin has played in pop bands since his school days (which is a real long time ago folks). Originally a drummer, Martin switched to lead guitar in the 1960's when Carnaby Street's music was still new and in the charts. He played in several school and teen bands with his brother and then gave up actively playing in bands for a number of years but always kept an acoustic nearby. Always big fans of The Beatles , The Stones and The Shadows and other 60's groups, Martin and Brian got together and formed Carnaby Street about 9 years ago to play the music that they grew up with and loved. Martin is an accomplished lead guitarist and accurately re-creates the sound of the "Shads" and the Mersey beat bands.

Brian Lennon

Rhythm guitarist Brian was also a big fan of the 60's sound from his school days. A founder member of the band, Brian and Martin are the main driving force. The early 60's saw Brian playing in number of bands with school mates including "Three Of Herts", a Hertfordshire based band (play on words - clever). His middle period or the "Lost Years" as he calls them (most of the great artists have a lost years period - Dylan, Lennon - the other one), and Brian was finger-picking in dark dingy folk clubs. After a period of self discovery Brian joined The Rock Experience summer workshops at John Dankworth and Cleo Laine's famous Stables Theatre, and got bitten by the bug all over again, resulting in joining forces with Marty Marvin. The rest, as they say, is history.

Harry Moon

Harry is the third founder member of the band and has played in bands and also as a solo artist for many years. As well as playing drums, Harry has pursued a solo career as a singer and guitarist, specialising in Elvis Presley and rock and roll numbers, and also writes his own songs. Harry has his own small home studio where he goes to be creative. Having taken a 9 month break from the group at the start of 2011, Harry has now rejoined the band and is now helping out on some of the lead and backing vocals as well as laying down that famous 60's back beat on the drums.

Nick Entwhistle

Nick is a relative newcomer to the band, having taken over from original bassist Les about four years ago. Nick is another oldie from the 60's and has played in a number of local Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes based bands over the years since his school days. Originally a sax player and clarinettist, Nick was persuaded to switch to bass by his school mates because sax and clarinet was not very cool in pop bands in those days (and he wasn't very good). They suggested the bass because it only had four strings and they felt he might be able to manage that more easily. They promised him he could progress to six strings when he got the hang of four strings. He still plays the bass. Enough said. Nick also plays bass in his daughter's contemporary covers band.

Karen Joplin

The lovely Ms. Joplin is the rose amidst thorns, and brings some refreshing and authentic vocal harmonies to the band. Having tagged along to numerous early gigs with husband Pete, Karen was eventually persuaded by the other members into doing the honours on backing vocals and adding the various percussion instruments on which she is very good. She is now doing some of the lead vocals as well and we couldn't do without her. Always a bit of a flower child, Karen plays guitar and does a lot of folk festivals when she gets the time. She always looks fab in her flowing hippy and authentic mini dresses, and occasionally kinky boots, and adds some much needed glamour to an otherwise grisly bunch.

Dave Martin

Latest recruit is the fabulous Dave Martin who replaced our original lead vocalist Pete in the summer of 2011. Dave had stood in for Pete on a couple of occasions so was the obvious choice when work commitments forced Pete to stand down. Dave comes from a background of solo work and has a parallel career doing the solo circuit in the clubs pubs and private functions with his fantastic big band and swing performances singing all the greats plus some modern standards to professional backing tracks and to his own guitar accompaniment. His Sinatra stuff is truly awesome and to be Frank, sounds just like the man himself. Dave has a large fan base all of his own (lucky devil).

BACK @ ANCHOR

It's the first time we've been back here for a couple of years, and they've refitted the place. Very nice with a separate restaurant area now.....
